We will walk through its narrow and steep streets, with old houses built by the Spaniards on important Inca foundations; then we will make a stop at the famous “Stone of Twelve Angles”, in order to take the best photos. We continue our walk to the Plaza de Armas in Cusco, in the heart of the city, where we will recharge our batteries. Then we will continue to the local market of San Pedro, which is open every day of the week with a variety of items that are sold, such as delicious cakes, fresh juices, cheeses, huge bread (known in Cusco as Chutas), tropical fruits, vegetables, medicinal herbs, fresh coca leaves and also products considered “odd” by some: snakes in bottles, snouts, animal heads and soups served with animal parts. The market of San Pedro will be our last stop; you can take as long as you want to go through the numerous small stalls and you can buy traditional souvenirs. We finish the walking tour in Cusco and your guide will suggest you the best places to have lunch.
Free afternoon.
In the early afternoon, you will pick you up with our transportation to drive you to Sacsayhuaman, a huge Inca fortress perched on a hilltop above Cusco. The ruins stun with their precisely-cut massive stone blocks, which would have been hauled up here from as far as 20 miles away.  Many of the stones you’ll see here were fitted together with such finesse that not even a stem of grass or a needle could be slipped into the seamless crevices where they meet. Even the Spanish conquistadors were impressed by the meticulous joinery of the Inca stonemasons. Francisco Pizarro’s brother, Pedro, when describing Sacsayhuaman in his writings, wondered how human hands could have accomplished it. On a visit here, you can wander the grassy areas of the site, climb ancient walls and perch on the very same stone seats where the Inca and pre-Inca people of eons past would have sat. Surrounded by the mortarless stone walls, whose zigzag designs cast shadows in the sunlight, Sacsayhuaman is the perfect place to ponder the past and marvel at the enduring artistry of the Incas.
